9/4/10 20:43 (UTC)I wish I could do fucked up with half as much grace.
I wish I could be as content with as little.
I wish I could be as trusting with as little reason to believe.
I'd have driven off into the sunset and lost all my contact numbers ages ago.

10/4/10 02:10 (UTC)I stumbled across a bit of Dean!hate after the last episode, and it made me super-sad. I love both the brothers, a lot, although I kiiind of have an extra soft spot for Dean - I run a Dean-focused comm, haha.
I actually just closed up the post for leaving new prompts, but new comment-fics are still coming in all the time if anyone is interested in that kind of fic.

10/4/10 02:24 (UTC)I feel like I should have more to say or be more eloquent or something, but I just think he's a beautiful character inside and out. He's more interesting and complicated than anyone else on TV.
The haters may moan and complain and bitch about every little thing he does. But they're still talking almost exclusively about him. That pretty much tells me everything I need to know about the success of this character.
Thanks for hosting this love meme. I've been kinda bummed all day reading some of the crap that's being spewed about him right now on LJ.

10/4/10 10:03 (UTC)I can`t say what made me feel for him from start, but I love him for all he is, for all he`s done, ot didn`t do. Until today. If anything, my love for him grows each day.
he makes me smile, he makes me shake my head going *headdesk*, he makes me wanna smack him upside the head at times, he makes me laugh in tears, he makes me cry like a baby, he leaves me behind in pieces at times.
He`s the character that inspieres me the most when it comes with fanart. Even when I try to do something for someone else, I always end up with Dean, always Dean.
Last, THANK YOU for this meme. I don`t comment on something like this often, but this time I just had to.

10/4/10 18:14 (UTC)Here's the thing: I kinda had this weird Dean dislike [can never hate him] these past couple episodes. He pitied himself too much, I told myself. He whines about his problems too much even though [Sam/Castiel/Bobby/Everyone Else] have worse problems. I've seen everyone else complain about him whining about his sad, sad life, but then I came to realize that hey, he never whined half as much as people say he did. He's only been doing it for the past couple episodes because he has been so broken by what has happened to him. He has tried to be so strong for his family, taking most of the brunt of Sam's selfishness [not that I have a dislike for Sam, but that's not the question] earlier before realizing his fate. Dean's way of being selfish is by being selfless. The wisecracking, womanizing Dean? That's the defense mechanism talking. He had to have a front for all that he's suffered throughout his life. Is it his fault that he's had to take so much in? If it were any sane human being, he/she would've tried to kill him/herself, before even discovering the whole Michael/Angels bullshit. The beauty of Dean is that he's stronger than any character on the show, despite lacking supernatural power that the rest of Team Free Will possess. Another thing I love is that Dean is smart. It's not portrayed often - Dean's having dropped out [?] resulted in the fan/canon coming to the conclusion that Dean = dumb which is. No. Just no. He has killer instinct for all things... well, supernatural. He was actually one step ahead of Sam sometimes. He... uh, read Chuck Pahlaniuk. I dunno, the show provides many examples of his understated intelligence, but does not dwell on it. Well.
Maybe the most important reason why I got drawn into Dean was because he was a lot like me. And a lot like you. He was, quite undoubtedly, the most human of all the characters in the show. He faces the moral dilemma of having to choose, the struggle of blind/passive obedience vs. active participation/rebellion, being a good brother vs. being a good son... the list goes on. He has loved more than any character in this show, and it shows just how much he's hurt by giving so much. He does it anyway. He's got his flaws: the self-esteem issue, the words he's probably said on occasion, being driven by emotions sometimes [to a fault], yet - hasn't everyone experienced any of these things at least once? Does it make Dean less of an awesome charcater if he fails at being perfect and goes on being human? Because see, despite these weaknesses that I presented, he's more than made up for it by his strengths, his determination. And, you argue, if he were so strong, would he have played with the possible choice of saying "Yes" to Michael? YES! He has been wrung like a sponge, with nothing more to give because the world expects and expects and he cannot fight back. This will be his time of weakness, but when he's got himself sharpened (and that is why I believe that Castiel beating him up will be good for him), he'll come out the best pencil of them all, leaving a mark more lasting than any of them haters ever can.
And it's 2am and I'm incoherent, so I apologize for the possible bull/TL;DR of this.

10/4/10 19:25 (UTC)Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but how are those other people's problems worse than Dean's?
(no subject)
11/4/10 01:58 (UTC)I meant to say "[Sam/Castiel/Bobby/Everyone Else] MAY have worse problems [which we don't actually know too much and cannot be a judge of, so it's not fair to judge Dean either]."
Thanks for pointing that out. Also - ugh I will NEVER write at 2AM again.

12/4/10 19:04 (UTC)It breaks my heart that he thinks so little of himself and is constantly giving/sacrificing himself for others.
When he loves, he puts all of his heart into it, same goes with saving people.

15/4/10 01:50 (UTC)Perfect characeters are boring so I'll take Dean as is, flaws and all. He's been to hell and back, had a father that did a hell of a job on him emotionally, now litrally has the weight of the world on his shoulders, with everything thats been thrown at him who the hell could blame him for how he's feeling. Issues, angst, broken, flawed, weary, but he's always been a hero who sacrifices everything for others, its what makes Dean, Dean. I'll never stop loving him no matter what.
